Like many, my son and his young family are stranded in Europe due to
the Icelandic volcano.

How people affected have been reacting to this unexpected situation
has clear lessons for business. We are witnessing some phenomenal
examples of initiative and resilience. Equally there are those who are
simply waiting for things to improve and flights to resume, because they
can’t imagine they won’t.

If you or your business encounter an unexpected setback, will you
be someone who just keeps doing what you’ve been doing in the hope
things improve; or will you take some immediate action?

QUICK TIP:    How to stay ahead of the game

The risk:
A significant event occurs affecting you and/or your business. Believing things will improve with time, you do nothing. But they don’t.
So you lose business, lose money, miss opportunities, and have others leapfrogging ahead of you.

The solution:
When unexpected events occur –
a) never wait for things to improve or change for the better
b) assume logic won’t prevail
c) acknowledge the evidence and facts facing you
d) ask yourself “If I know things won’t improve, what will I do?”
e) then get on and do it. You can’t lose.

If you have family or friends affected by the disruptions, I hope they are
able to return safely and soon.
